We came across a list this week of 36 things every girl should know...and after reading it together, Abigail and I came up with *our* version.
36 things I hope my child believes
1) You are special.
2) There is no one else exactly like you in the world, God made you uniquely you and cherishes you.
3) You deserve to be loved, unconditionally...which comes with honesty, respect and admiration.
4) You have the freedom of speech, because people fought (and died) for it so use it wisely and respectfully.
5) You are beautiful, but remember
6) Beauty is as beauty does. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised!
7) True friends make you laugh and feel good about yourself, but they are human too and sometimes they might hurt your feelings. Remember to be a good friend to have a good friend.
8) True love inspires you to be a better person, while accepting and loving you exactly as you are.
9) Girls can do pretty much anything boys can do, and some things that boys can't. But its not a competition.
10) Magic is a state of mind~
11) Taking time for yourself is very important, get to know and love yourself.
12) You can always come home~but home is where your heart is so really...you are always home.
13) You can tell your Momma anything :-)
14) Following the rules is a choice, and a good choice. It is quite rare to get in trouble for following the rules. People will tell you you don't have to...but wise people know rules are there for a reason and they respect the boundaries.
15) Following your heart shouldn't require broken rules. People say they are"following their heart" to make themselves feel better about doing something they know they shouldn't.
16) You are creative genius with a purpose in this world, don't deny the world the treasure of your gift.
17) There is no such thing as failure, lessons are hidden in every experience. Like the silver lining. Trust that "all good things work together for the good of those who love Him".
18) You are loved more than you will know...until you have your own child. Only you know how much I love you~you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.
19) Anything is possible if you believe.
20) There are few things that a hot cup of tea and a good book can't fix.
21) Go after your passion with a vengeance, but...
22) Remember to enjoy the scenery along the way.
23) Sometimes it is OK to have dessert for breakfast or breakfast for dinner. :-)
24) Don't wait for things to be "perfect" to be happy. And don't be dissapointed if things are exactly as you pictured. Sometimes the "mess ups" are the center of the masterpiece!
25) Stay focused on the big picture, but enjoy the details.
26) Trust yourself, you are smart enough, strong enough and brave enough.
27) When in doubt, pray!
28) It is OK if you don't know the answers, not many people really do. Being grown up just means you have mastered playing pretend :-)
29) The Golden Rule is the best standard by which to measure any choice. Treat others the way you want to be treated, even your sister :-)
30) Travel is the best teacher, but always be safe and wise. The world is a beautifully dangerous place. Use your head.
31) Never compromise your beliefs, for anyone or anything.
32) Manners count.
33) Learn to laugh at yourself, life is much easier that way!
34) It is OK to be fragile sometimes
35) I am always so proud of you!
36) I will always be with you...you are in my heart, and I am in yours always and forever.
